The National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC) serves as the critical command centre responsible for managing and coordinating responses to medical emergencies. Staffed by trained call takers, dispatchers, and supervisory personnel, the control room operates 24/7 to ensure immediate response to every call.

When a 999/112 call is received, control room operators quickly assess the nature and severity of the situation using structured triage protocols. For medical emergencies, this might include asking a series of clinical questions to determine the level of urgency and the most appropriate response.

NEOC operates across two sites in Tallaght, Dublin 24 and Ballyshannon, Co. Donegal.  The National Ambulance Service utilises the Advanced Medical Priority Dispatch System which are internationally recognised protocols and standards, set out by the International Academies of Emergency Dispatch, to ensure every emergency receives the appropriate response.

NEOC is an Accredited Centre of Excellence, placing the control room amongst the top 10% worldwide.

The control room also handles non-emergency medical transfers, Aeromedical transfers, Critical Care Retrieval Services together with Alternative Pathways delivering rapid, coordinated action that can mean the difference between life and death.
